Another fun event put together by the World of Dance family. Had 3 rooms, 1 main stage where the choreography competitions took place. Another room where the b-boy battles were happening (headlining was Crumbs vs Hong10, but they had to postpone their battle due to an injury). Another room called “One Stage, One Shot” hosted a 1 on 1 all styles battle, and a 3 minute crew performance competition.

Although the headlining battle with Crumbs and Hong10 had to be postponed, the b-boy room was still crackin! Didn’t really get to stick around in all the rooms to see who won the competitions, but each room had their own vibe to it though. It was too bad that not many people were in the One Stage One Shot room. The time we got in there was during the prelims of the Turf battles. I have to admit, the first time I saw kids turfing a few years ago, I wasn’t feeling it. But the dancers I saw at the jam really opened my mind. These kids had some really dope moves. They were some who weren’t always on beat, and didn’t seem like they were listening to the music, but to the ones who were definitely paying attention to the beats… DAAAAMN! Very inspiring no doubt with the flexibility tricks and the tutting. What I would really like to see though, is more grooving and less tricks. But I can’t wait to see these kids in like 2-3 years, they will be even nastier for sure! I now have greater appreciation for the Turf dancers out there, now that I can see more of the style’s potential.

The choreo competition room had a full house as always. Supreme Soul & Quest Crew were the headliners this year. I’ve never seen Quest crew live before, but appreciated the humor they had in their routine for the show. Honestly kept me entertained. There’s been quite a buzz going around about Supreme Soul’s performance and the message it had. You can read what that buzz is here on bloggingbestdancecrew (http://bit.ly/3ZEIzo). In my opinion, the people who are complaining about it need to just chill out. Clearly wasn’t directed towards any group, and is a good valid point about the dance scene right now. The main stand out for us in the choreography room though was Robonati, who did a sick strutting routine, props to these fellas for rippin it.

On a side note, I had a lot of fun performing with my brothers (Groovmekanex). It was the debut performance for our Temptations Locking Tribute. We had so much fun making this routine and the support we got from the crowd was just awesome. Thanks to those who enjoyed it, we hope that you now have a greater appreciation for the good music from the back in the day. The kids at the event didn’t know who the Temptations were, till they heard the song My Girl, during the set. hahah

One Stage One Shot was probably my favorite room of the event. They gave some recognition awards to deserving Bay Area groups such as Medea Sirkas, Renegades, Mighty4, and one of my favorite Bay Area Hip-Hop groups, Housing Authority. The highlight of the evening for me though was seeing some of the OG Bay Area BRS guys get down. William Randolph III, Newberry, all of them still getting down to this day.
